What the backlog is made of

Office grades
Not every office runs the same queue
Two applicants filing the same form on the same day wait different lengths of time depending on which office holds the file. Each office is graded against offices of its own kind, on how long its queue ran for that form — never on how often it says no. How the grade works →
Why this exists
USCIS publishes all of this. It publishes it as sixty spreadsheets a quarter, with the office codes in one file and the processing times in another.
Every figure on this site is read straight out of those releases, and every page names the file it came from. Nothing is estimated, nothing is modelled, and where USCIS withheld a number to protect applicants, the page says so instead of filling the gap.
